FAQ

Over the last few years, I have received quite a few emails containing similar questions. Here are answers to some of the most common. I will update these as new ones arise.

Q: How long have you been with Collective Soul?

A: I have been working with Collective Soul since October 13th, 2003. Up until January 2005, it was only in the studio as a session drummer. Since January 2005, I have toured and recorded as their full-time drummer.

Q: What exactly was your involvement on the album "Youth"?

A: I was called in as a freelance session drummer to record drum and percussion tracks with the band. I played live drums/percussion on all but three tracks ("Counting the Days", "Him", and "Feels Like"). I recorded (not programmed) everything else in Atlanta, GA and Nashville, TN under the direction of producers Dexter Green and Ed Roland.

Q: Do you teach?

A: Yes. I have recently started accepting students in the LA/Hollywood area. Please drop me an email if you are interested.

Q: What is your current touring setup? How does that differ from your studio setup?

A: Here are some photos of my current live setup:
"Live Setup #1"
"Live Setup #2"
"Live Setup #3"
"Live Setup South Africa"

The only difference between what you see here and what I play live is that I use Ludwig Drums exclusively. The sizes are: 24"x14" bass drum, 14"x10" rack tom, 16"x16" floor tom, 14"x5" Supraphonic snare, and a 12"x6" soprano side snare.

In the studio, all bets are off. I use many different setups to achieve whatever vibe I feel the music calls for. One of the reasons that I love the studio so much is that I get to reinvent myself for every project or even song. I use an array of assorted drums and cymbals that I have collected over the years. Check out this photo of the setup that I used to record the song "Perfect To Stay" by Collective Soul:
"Perfect To Stay Setup"

Q: Do you still work with other artist's in the studio?

A: Yes. I have equipment in Atlanta, Nashville, and Los Angeles and I try to record as much as possible when I'm not touring with Collective Soul. I also like to play live with other artists when the opportunity arises.

Q: Who are your favorite drummers and some of the tracks they recorded that you find inspirational?

A: Anything recorded by these drummers: Steve Gadd, John Bonham, Dave Grohl, Steve Jordan, Steve Ferrone, Stewart Copeland, Phill Rudd, Paul Leim, Ringo Starr, Travis McNabb, Shane Evans, Todd Roper, Andy Newmark, Matt Chamberlain, Kenny Aronoff, Larry Mullen Jr., Shawn Pelton, Matt Cameron, and John Robinson.

Q: What instructional videos/reading materials have inspired you?

Steve Jordan: The Groove Is Here Dr. Wayne Dyer: The Power of Intention Dr. Wayne Dyer: The Secrets of the Power of Intention
